Support Israel's Right to Self-Defense

The House and Senate passsed resolutions that express strong support for Israel as it seeks to defend itself from Hamas rocket attacks against Israeli civilians.

The House resolution (H. Res. 813), introduced by House Foreign Affairs Committee Chair Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL) and Ranking Member Howard Berman (D-CA), passed by unanimous consent on Nov. 16. The Senate resolution (S. Res. 599), introduced by Sens. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) and Mark Kirk (R-IL), passed by unanimous consent on Nov. 15.

  1. An Intolerable Threat
    In the past 11 years, Hamas, a radical Islamist terror group that seeks Israel’s destruction, has hit  the Jewish state with more than 12,000 rockets, including more than 1,000 in the past year and more than 365 in the past week.

    Like all nations, Israel has the right and duty to protect its citizens from such attacks.

    It is vitally important that the United States strongly supports Israel as it exercises its legitimate right to self-defense.
